Firmware Update

in E2

Vantrue E2 with Vantrue 512 GB SD Card

Firmware E2_VT-EBK161

Order No. 16233

I am unable to upgrade my Firmware to the latest version, this is what I have done:

!. Format SD Card

2. Download Firmware Version: E2_VT-ECA061 to computer

3. Connect dashcam to computer

4. Copy and Paste Firmware from computer to SD Card

5. Disconnect dashcam from computer

6. Power up Dashcam

7. Wait a while

8. Format the SD Card

I Tried a couple of times without success, what am I doing wrong?😓

UPDATE

Sorted, but for the sake of others who may encounter this problem, here is a possible solution;

1. The Firmware Version is Version: E2_VT-ECA061.bin

2. However the downloaded file is named VT_E2.bin

3. Now, if you have previously downloaded an earlier Firmware update and it is still on your computer, in the same folder, the latest downloaded Firmware Version will be VT_E2(1).bin. This will not update.

4. To ensure that you do not encounter this problem, make sure that you delete any previous downloaded Firmware updates before you download the latest Firmware.😂

Suggest that you rename VT_E2.bin on your computer to it's version number AFTER copying to SD card (e.g. E2_VT-ECA061.bin). That way, if you later find that you need to go back to an earlier version (common when vendors take capabilities AWAY), you have it!!!!

While there is a risk of file corruption over time, most firmware (i.e. professionally written) will do a form of checksum verification on itself before installation. You can keep a 2nd copy (mine is actually on a backup cloud server). Create a 2nd copy on different media otherwise. When vendors deprecate a popular capability (especially a very popular or very useful one), the email to support for former version will often result in a screw you response (not talking with special knowledge of this vendor, just vendors in general). Then you are stuck having to download versions that you have no idea what extra malicious code might have been added.

One way which I believe should answer both concerns is as follows;

Create a new folder, I named mine “Vantrue”
Create a new folder within this and name it with the Version name, for example “E2_VT-ECB141”, as I did.
Copy and paste the downloaded file “VT_E2.bin” into this folder
Repeat for further firmware updates.
